Army of Dude

This blog is getting attention.  I hoped to avoid reviewing blogs that are ”popular.” My intention is not to review what many already know, or can find on their own.  My intention is to review weird crevices of the blogging world…. but..

Here’s the thing: I don’t like the army.  I don’t like people who wear flags on their leather jackets.  I don’t like talking about supporting our troops.  I don’t like the fourth of July when stuff blows up.  It’s not my thing. I was pretty sure that after I went to this site, I coud find something to ridicule.  But you know, It is really really hard to not like this.  Damnit!

It isn’t politicized, it isn’t heavy handed.  It’s just what is going on; a world I really really really don’t want to look at.

I’ll be honest, I couldn’t stay on this site too long.  I cannot do it.  I can’t hear about women slapping themselves out of hysteria or near misses with bombs.  As my boyfriend will tell you, my area of comfort is about one inch wide, and this is way out of bounds.  But AOD isn’t like that at all.  It is funny, and cute, and it has dumb jokes about fellow army-ites in it.  Also, I lied, it is a little political.  How can a 22 year old from Texas sit right in the middle of all that is “Iraq” today and not have a few opinions?

Also, I want to point out, I am 28 and have a masters’ degree.  I like to think I’m special.  But this kid is 22 and he is in a war and he is a journalist.  It’s all there - the pictures, the tone, the material.  Just when you start being amazed that Raphael Nadal at 22 years old just won Wimbledon, you stop and realize other people are also doing really cool things at 22.  Like telling us stories; true ones.
